Curator notes
- Housed in an 1874 livery stable near Delaware Ave — original hitching posts are still bolted to the brick wall inside.[1]
- Owner and bartender Mike Driscoll, a former social studies teacher, opened the pub in 1986 and has filled it with presidential portraits, yellowed newspaper clippings, and life-size cutouts of JFK and Lincoln.[3]
- True to his teaching background, Driscoll quizzes patrons from behind the bar on history and trivia — there's an official trivia night the first Tuesday of every month.[3]
- Free popcorn and nachos are a house tradition, alongside a small tap list and a notable fried bologna sandwich.[2]
- The bar has drawn national attention, including a CNN documentary feature.[4]
